What the episode covers

The episode follows one question: who is Mario? A carpenter, a plumber, a borrowed name. It goes through every main game in order, including:

Donkey Kong (1981), the lawsuit Universal brought against Nintendo, and Mario Bros. (1983)
Super Mario Bros. (1985), with Shigeru Miyamoto's hand-written plan for it
Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan (1986) and the different sequel released elsewhere in 1988
Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988), Super Mario World (1990) and Super Mario 64 (1996)
Sunshine (2002), the New Super Mario Bros. games and the two Galaxy games
Super Mario Odyssey (2017) and the Bowser's Fury edition of 3D World in 2021
the 2023 movie, a new voice for Mario, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, with its Switch 2 Edition in 2026
